Strabismus, often mistaken for amblyopia or lazy eye, is a binocular vision disorder where the eyes do not align properly. In this condition, one eye focuses on an object while the other may turn inwards (cross-eyed) or outwards (wall-eyed). This misalignment can lead to visual complications such as double vision and may predispose individuals to amblyopia if not addressed. Various treatment options are available for strabismus, including patching, the use of prisms to alleviate double vision, vision therapy to strengthen eye coordination, surgical interventions to correct alignment, and botox therapy to relax overactive eye muscles. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for preventing long-term visual problems.
